Update 9/12/17
What a difference a day makes! I believe Pleasant Point now has full power. We wanted to update everyone on several things so here we go….
1. The Main Causeway and Piccadilly are no longer flooded.
2. The Pool will remain closed until it has been tested.
3. TGC will help Homeowners with roadside debris clean up over the several days. We ask that you to combined your debris with three or four of your neighbors and put it roadside and TGC will come by and get it.
4. The Board Meeting Scheduled for tonight is canceled.
5. There is no longer the need to conserve water now that TJ Barnwell’s pumps have power.
Thanks to everyone that has helped before, during and after the storm. We were very fortunate and had made it through this storm with only minor issues. If you are here starting to clean up be careful and do not over do it. If you need help, ask a neighbor or reach out to your Board for assistance. If you evacuated and are getting ready to return home travel safely and we will see you soon.
Email 9/11/17 Evening
Hello Again,
We have good news as of 7pm today a lot of the water that came in with the tide is leaving with the tide. The only two problem areas are the Main Causeway and Piccadilly because they both have standing water on them The Causeway is much better and the water was still going down. What once may have been three feet of water on the Causeway is now less than a foot. We still request extreme caution when traveling around Pleasant Point and especially on the Causeway because we are not sure what the next high tide will bring as far as flooding. We will be out in the morning to begin clean up and to check on these problem areas.
Most of Pleasant Point is still without power and I have to tell you it is not fun. Since we do not have power our sewer company's pumps are without power also. TJ Barnwell and Pleasant Point have been calling SCE&G to stress the importance of getting the power to these pumps back online. TJ Barnwell has asked us Homeowners to conserver water. Whatever water we use ultimately ends up in their system. This will help relieve the storage issues they are having until they can pump the system down. They promised that they will be out first thing in the morning to pump the system manually if power is not restored. We will let you know when you can go back to normal usage. Thank you for you cooperation and understanding.
We hope you have a good evening and we will email you tomorrow with another update.
Sincerely,
Your Pleasant Point Board.
Update 9/11/17 4:15pm
Afternoon Update: 9-11-17
Dear Neighbors,
We went out at high tide, and there is extensive flooding throughout Pleasant Point. Our main causeway has been flooded. The water was running over it like a river as the tide came in. The causeway is intact just under water. There are sections of many of our roads that you cannot drive on due to flooding. We also had a tree down on Downing, and we were able to get it off the roadway.
We wish we had power so we could share some pictures with you so you can get a visual of what is going on here. We promise as soon as we can we will get pictures on the web site. If you are here in Pleasant Point, it is not safe to be out, so please stay inside. If you have evacuated, please do not rush back because we do not have power and you may not be able to even get to your home until the flooding subsides.
We will send another update later today.
Sincerely,
Your Pleasant Point Board
Update 9/11/17 Noon
Hello Neighbors,
We had a relatively calm night, but we are paying for it now. It rained on and off most of the night, but the heavy stuff started around 6 am, and it had not let up much. We lost power on Barnwell at about 8 am this morning, and it came back on around 9:45 only to go off again around 11:15. Winds have been consistent at about 25 – 30 mph with gust up to 60. The weather is expected to continue this way most of the day. The McTeer Bridge has been closed due to strong winds. There are approximately 20,000 customers without power, and we are under a flash flood warning but besides all that we are VERY LUCKY!!
It just keeps on raining!!! We drove around the neighborhood at around 11 am, and the only flooding we saw was from the rain, but high tide was not here yet. We saw a lot of tree debris and some limbs down all around the community. Our roads were clean enough to drive around without any difficulty. We set eyes on every house visible from the roadways and saw no damage to any of them.
We have taken photos but cannot up load them through my mobile connection; therefore we will post them when we get power back. We will send another update after we check out the property at high tide.
Sincerely,
Your Pleasant Point Board of Directors
Update #2 - 9/10/17
Hello Neighbors,
We hope everyone is safe and sound! Based on the level of the water at the last high tide there is a good probability that water will breach the 5th hole tomorrow morning around 1:30 AM and again tomorrow afternoon around 2:04 PM. If this is the case, we believe the causeway will be under water for a while. We ask that if the causeway is under water, please do not drive over it.
We are planning on getting out tomorrow and take pictures of the high tide and any damage in the neighborhood. We will post all photos in the photo gallery. Let's hope there will be no damage to photograph!! If you know of any neighbors that are in need of help or need to be checked on, please let us know, and we will make sure we stop in and see them.
Sincerely,
Paul Derrick (pjderick@icloud.com)

The two storm shelters will be open at 9:00 AM this morning in Beaufort County: Bluffton High School at
12 H.E. McCracken Drive in Bluffton and Battery Creek High School at

The curfew for Beaufort County’s barrier islands went into effect last night. It was largely quiet overnight with no major criminal incidents reported. The curfew will better enable law enforcement to focus on protecting the property of residents who have evacuated. Sheriff P.J. Tanner appreciates your continued compliance with the curfew, which remains in effect over the next two nights: 7:00 PM Sunday night until 7:00 AM Monday morning and again from 7:00 PM Monday night until 7:00 AM Tuesday morning. Hilton Head Island, Daufuskie Island, Harbour Island, Hunting Island and Fripp Island are the only areas under curfew.
The County Channel was captured some photographs of this flooding and beach erosion yesterday and posted this information to the County website. The PowerPoint slide show that they created is viewable at https://www.facebook.com/beaufortcountysc/

Update 9/9/17
Governor McMaster issued a mandatory evacuation order for the barrier islands in Beaufort County starting at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 9, 2017. Beaufort County barrier islands under the mandatory evacuation order are Hilton Head Island, Daufuskie Island, Harbour Island, Hunting Island and Fripp Island. 1 Blue Dolphin Drive in Burton. The Red Cross storm shelters will be open Sunday Morning at 9:00 AM. Sheriff's Office Emergency Management continues to closely monitor Hurricane Irma and addition al information will be released tomorrow morning.
Beaufort County School District schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday. This decision was made in cooperation with county emergency management officials.
The district expects to reopen schools on normal schedules Wednesday, with the possible exception of Hilton Head Island schools should there be issues with surge-related flooding
I drove around Pleasant Point today and we are just about ready for the storm. The pool and wicker furniture is inside the Clubhouse. The ponds have been drained in anticipation of unusually high tides. Clean up equipment is staged in the Clubhouse parking lot and believe it or not there are golfers on the course
I am working on a photo gallery addition called "Hurricane Irma" that I will continue to add pictures as I get them.
UPDATE 9/7/17
Beaufort County is encouraging people to consider leaving ahead of the mandatory evacuation that is expected for Saturday.
From the Beaufort County Sheriff's department:
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston, Hurricane Irma remained a powerful category 5 storm over the Atlantic Ocean moving west-northwest as of 5:00 pm today. As of this time no evacuation order for Beaufort County has been issued, but residents and guests are encouraged to leave ahead of a mandatory evacuation expected to start Saturday morning. Leaving ahead provides you with the opportunity to evacuate in a direction of your choice, rather than pre-determined routes. Please stay up-to-date on Hurricane Irma through the National Weather Service Charleston

UPDATE 9/6/17
Irma Prep:
Latest storm tracks suggest we might get a larger piece of Irma than we'd like. The Grounds Committee intends to raise the flaps at both trunks, starting with Lady's Walk, Saturday at noon (high tide). This should allow the lakes to empty & reach equilibrium in advance of the storm surge
