Pleasant Point Historian
When the communications committee met to determine the type of articles that should be included in the newsletter, everyone was in agreement that an historical overview of Pleasant Point was a good option. Granted, this has been broached in the past; however, time has passed and a sufficient number of new neighbors has moved to our community, and that merits revisiting the topic. Then we deliberated who might best serve as
"appointed historian", recognizing that it is appropriate the historian should be a person who has lived here long enough to see the many changes that have taken place over the years.
Recently an article appeared in the online publication Beaufort Tribune which addressed the fifteen year history of Beaufort Garden Club's annual tour, Garden-a-Day, and our own Marion Leach was the focus of this piece. The author described Marion as "sheer inspiration, "a mover and shaker who has brought Beaufort into civic action and higher
purpose for over twenty years." The article went on to say that through her extensive
work, locally and state-wide, Marion has earned the distinctions of Life Member of the Garden Club of South Carolina, and Life Member of National Garden Clubs. We also know that Marion and her late husband Jimmie worked tirelessly with underprivileged children and veterans' rograms. Thus it was that the committee decided Marion was an excellent choice, and fortunately she agreed to accept the position and undertake the task of informing us about the history of Pleasant Point.
Marion is a long-standing member of AAUW, Beaufort Branch, and has held various positions with that group. She is also a member of the Pleasant Point Book Club. At this time she is busy writing an article for a friend of Jimmie's. This was something Jimmie was going to do before his passing, so she feels the need to complete this task. Look forward to seeing Marion's observations of Pleasant Point in upcoming issues of the
newsletter.

Are you aware that Pleasant Point has a book club that meets the first Monday of every month at 2:30 in the afternoon? They gather to discuss various literary works, both fiction and non-fiction, and in December they get together for a holiday pot-luck lunch and discuss poetry. At the present time, there are eight members, and if you are interested in joining the group, please contact Marge Boyle.

Do you need a handy man or a lawn person? It is best to rely on the recommendation of someone you know, and although there are no guarantees regarding these suggestions (please accept that they are merely suggestions), it might be beneficial to have the list available when a need arises. If you would like to see such a list made available, or you know of people who do such work, please email Carol Lucas.
